NAMES ASSOCIATED WITH KING INCLUDE JAMES BROWN, BOOTSY COLLINS, OTIS WILLIAMS, JACKIE WILSON, HANK BALLARD, HENRY GLOVER, PHILLIP PAUL, THE DELMORE BROTHERS, AND SO MANY OTHERS. BREAKING RACIAL BARRIERS FROM BLUEGRASS MUSIC TO R&B AND ROCK AND ROLL. KING IS CREDITED WITH REVOLUTIONIZING THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. TODAY ON LET'S TALK CINCY, ONE OF THE EFFORTS TO PRESERVE THE LEGACY HERE NOW IS MY CONVERSATION WITH TWO MEMBERS OF THE KING RECORDS LEGACY FOUNDATION. PATTY COLLINS, THE WIFE OF ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAMER BOOTSY COLLINS, AND KEN --, THE SON OF KING RECORDS LEGEND OTIS WILLIAMS OF THE SINGING GROUP THE CHARMS. FROM THE AND IT'S IT'S KIND OF WILD BECAUSE WE'VE GONE THROUGH SO MANY GENERATIONS NOW. LIKE WHEN I TALKED TO. KIDS OR COLLEGES OR K THROUGH 12 AND THEY HAVE NO CLUE. WHAT THEY THINK, WELL, HE'S THE FIRST PERSON TO INTEGRATE AND BRING EVERYBODY WOMEN, YOU KNOW, WHITE PEOPLE, BLACK PEOPLE TOGETHER. THIS TRULY HAPPENED. THE PROBLEM IS, IS PEOPLE SKIP PAST. AND YOU KNOW, THE WAY BOOTSY IS PHRASED HIS CHAPTER RIGHT NOW IN HIS LIFE IS, YOU KNOW, HOW THE NFL PLAYERS RETIRE AND THEY BECOME COACHES AND THAT'S WHO HE IS AT THIS MOMENT. HE'S A COACH FOR UP AND COMING ARTISTS. FINALLY TODAY, AS I MENTIONED AT FINALLY TODAY, AS I MENTIONED AT THE TOP OF THE PROGRAM, ONE OF THE MOST FAMILIAR NAMES ASSOCIATED WITH KING RECORDS IS JAMES BROWN AND HIS BAND, THE JB'S. WHEN I STARTED DOING RECORDINGS OF THE KING RECORDS, HE STARTED REALLY WANTING TO KNOW WHO WE WERE. HE HEARD ABOUT THESE BROTHERS, THESE TWO COLLINS BROTHERS, YOU KNOW, AND THEN HE STARTED TO CHECKING US OUT. WE DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS CHECKING US OUT BECAUSE WE WERE THERE. CHARLES SPERLING FROM LINCOLN HEIGHTS, HE WAS THE ONE THAT TOOK US OVER THE KING, RIGHT? YEAH, HE PLAYED WELL. HE PLAYED PIANO AND GUITAR. ARTIE SHERMAN OKAY. HE WAS THE ORGANIST. OKAY. BUT WE DID RECORDS FOR CHARLES, AND WE DID RECORDS FOR ARTIE. WE DID RECORDS FOR BILL DOGGETT. ARTHUR PRYSOCK, YOU KNOW, HANK BALLARD, YOU KNOW. AND SEE, WE WAS DOING ALL OF THAT BEFORE JAMES BROWN REALIZED I NEED THESE BOYS, YOU KNOW? SO. SO WE JUST OVER THERE RECORDING, LEARNING THE PROCESS. AND I'M PUTTING, LIKE, MR. TURNER'S IMPRINT THAT HE HAD ON ME. I'M PUTTING THAT BACK INTO WHAT I'M LEARNING. YOU KNOW, I'M LEARNING FROM THEM NOW. OR ACCOMPANY THE ARTIST, THAT'S THE RECORD IS THEN YOU WON'T GET TOO MANY GIGS. YOU KNOW, I WANTED TO BE A MUSICIAN THAT COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT THE ARTISTS WANTED. YOU KNOW? THEN I TRY TO GIVE THEM THAT, AND IF THEY LIKED IT, THEY WENT WITH IT. YOU KNOW, USUALLY THEY WOULD LIKE IT, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE THEY WANTED THAT YOUNG ENERGY, YOU KNOW, AND THAT'S WHAT I HAD, YOU KNOW, MORE SO THAN THE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT I'M PLAYING. YOU KNOW, I JUST PLAYED WHAT I HEARD IN MY HEAD, YOU KNOW, AND 99% OUT OF 100, THEY LIKE WHAT I WAS HEARING. THAT'S THE SAME THING WITH JAMES. YOU KNOW, HE LIKED WHAT I WAS HEARING.
